GENERAL LIBRARY SUGGESTIONS

SUGGESTION: Please get a heavy duty stapler that can handle printing cases longer than 15 pages.

SLL RESPONSE: The Document Delivery office, at the south end of the fourth floor reading room has a heavy duty stapler and can assist any patron with this need. The Document Delivery is office is open from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

SUGGESTION: Please find another location to update binders. It seems that the favorite location for this activity is on the second [fifth] floor at one of the large back tables. The sound is amplified and extremely distracting. Perhaps one of the enclosed rooms upstairs would be a better option.

SLL RESPONSE: Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Effective immediately, filers will use alternative locations outside of patron work areas for loose-leaf filing.

SUGGESTION: I have been noticing an increase in incidents of people eating and drinking in the library--everything from snacks to full lunches. The odor and especially the noise of chewing and food wrappers etc. is very distracting and annoying. Please police the no food policy more effectively.

SLL RESPONSE: The Social Law Library allows patrons to eat and drink in the Library. The nature of our patrons’ work lends itself to long days of research and it is not practical to prohibit eating and drinking. To protect our resources – both paper and electronic we insist that beverages have a lid. We would ask that all patrons be courteous to each other at all times.

COLLECTION/HOLDINGS

SUGGESTION: This feature is great!!! Just one suggestion - could you please continue to provide paper copies of Globe & Herald??

SLL RESPONSE:Due to deep budget cuts the Library can no longer support the purchase of local newspapers. However, members can access current and archived newspaper articles free through our subscription to Massachusetts Newsstand by logging in with their SLL username and password at www.socialaw.com (click on the Login button in the upper right hand corner). This includes access to -The Boston Globe (1980-Current), Boston Herald (1991-Current), Worcester Telegram & Gazette (1989-Current)as well as many other newspapers from around the state.

Additionally, while in the Library members can use any of the public computers throughout the Library to access the local newspapers’ web sites for current news and information.

SUGGESTION: I would appreciate it if the SLL would consider obtaining a subscription to American Banker, a 5-day per week periodical covering news in the banking and financial services industry. This periodical is not only of importance to my practice, but likely to the practices of other SLL members, particularly considering the important changes now occurring to the nation's financial services regulatory environment in the wake of the present financial crisis.

SLL RESPONSE: Members should contact the Social Law Library Collection Development department with requests for specific titles. We are constantly striving to meet the needs of our members and are open to review suggestions for new acquisitions.

CIRCULATION

SUGGESTION: Allow borrowers to renew books online more than just one time, so long as no one else has requested the book or put it on hold.

SLL RESPONSE: The Library’s current Circulation Policy reads: Briefs, reserve books, reference books, computer software, and index volumes do not circulate. All other materials circulate under the following rules. An item may be borrowed from the Library for a circulation period of one week and may be renewed three times by the borrower either in person, over the telephone (617 226-1500), or through the On-line Catalog, provided that no request has been made for the item by another patron. If the circulating item is not returned or renewed by the date due, an overdue notice will be sent to the borrower.
